With Lectionary Year C about to begin, it was timely to gather and focus on the gospel according to St Luke – who better to help us learn, reflect, and prepare for preaching Luke than Revd Canon Professor Loveday Alexander? Her seminar gave the 26 delegates a veritable feast of wisdom, covering the identity of Luke himself and the shape of the gospel and how it features in the Lectionary, as well as a particular look at some of the key themes of the gospel: the infancy narratives, proclaiming the kingdom, the Messianic community, the work of the kingdom. We finished with a detailed look at one of the most confusing of Luke’s parables, The Crafty Steward.
Those who were able to attend will have taken home not only an expanded mind and a new enthusiasm for engaging with Luke’s gospel but also a fantastically detailed set of handouts, and our presenter has kindly agreed to make these available to download:
If you were at the seminar, and would like to respond to Loveday’s final question or to any of the themes discussed during the day, or to share your ideas about preaching Luke this coming year, you are welcome to do so via a comment on this page, or via the Westcott Foundation’s twitter feed @Westcott_TWF using the hashtag #preachingluke or on the Foundation’s facebook page.
